Great Advice At 34th Week Of Pregnancy – The Final Stage Of Waiting
The 34th week of pregnancy is when baby and mother are gaining more weight. Many women experienced breath shortage because of the growing size of the uterus. Baby pushes the other organs in your body. The lungs have difficulty in expanding its full capacity resulting to shortage in breath. When baby settles deeply in the pelvis in the last few weeks, the lungs reduce momentarily.
You may feel that 40 weeks is too long for waiting. More than 30 weeks ago when you discovered your menstrual period stopped. You checked with your calendar or fertility date and found out you were pregnant. Time of anticipation from date of conception up to present may be too long but at the last trimester, waiting for the big day will be over sooner or later.
Baby’s development
Your baby is now between 15 ½ to 17 ½ inches long. The weight is about 5 ½ pounds but depends on the state of pregnancy. Baby’s body is filled up with layers of fats. The temperature starts to regulate and adjust to the atmosphere from outside the womb. Almost all the organs are fully-developed except for the lungs, wherein the baby is still practicing of breathing. This time, the baby learns to blink its eyes. It reacts from familiar voices. The facial feature is clearer at 34th week and the fingers and toes are developed already.
Changes in your body
Your uterus is about 5 ½ inches above your navel. The peak of the amniotic fluid in the uterus is between 34 to 36 weeks and reduces as baby grows. The acidity level increases as baby starts kicking and moving rapidly. The common solution for this is eating small meals frequently. Water retention is common as baby’s due date is approaching. It is the swelling of the feet, face, ankles and hands. What reduces the swelling is drinking more water. Consulting to the doctor is the most important action especially if the swelling is severe.
What to expect
In the last trimester, anytime between within 14 days prior to due date, baby will arrive. It is important to know the stages of labor. When cervix dilates to 10 cm and contraction occurs in 5 minutes interval, you should go to the hospital as this is the start of childbirth. The actual delivery is the second stage of labor and this is the longest period. The last stage is the delivery of the placenta which takes five to thirty minutes. A surgical incision or episiotomy is common during the time of delivery. If baby’s head is too large, the perineum has no enough time to stretch. Therefore, incision is required.
